The Essentials

Gmail just got a little smarter with new tools to help you track deliveries, events, and more without digging through a mountain of emails.

If you’ve ever found yourself lost in an inbox full of junk trying to locate that one important email, this latest update might be your new best friend. Gmail is upgrading its summary cards feature, which now gives you a quicker, cleaner way to keep tabs on your purchases, bills, and plans—all without the hassle.

You’ve probably seen summary cards before; they’ve been around for a while, offering little previews at the top of emails. But this update, which was announced through a press release to FileNUX, takes it up a notch. The cards have been redesigned and now come packed with extra features.

You can even toss events straight into your calendar, set reminders for bills, and easily find info through Gmail’s shiny new “Happening soon” section and search features.

These updated cards pull crucial details from your emails, updating in real-time so you’re always in the loop. Take purchase cards, for example—they now let you track packages and view order details at a glance. Event cards make sure you won’t miss that concert or dinner reservation. Bill cards? They’re your new best buddy for keeping those pesky due dates in check. Planning a trip? The travel cards bring everything from flight times to hotel check-outs into one handy spot.

Need to act fast? Options like “Get directions,” “Track package,” or “Mark as paid” are right there on the card. No need to go on a wild goose chase through your inbox to get things done. And that “Happening soon” section? It serves up your most urgent updates—like deliveries or upcoming events—right at the top of your inbox, so you won’t miss a beat.

The updated purchase summary cards are starting to hit Android and iOS devices now, while event, bill, and travel cards, along with the “Happening soon” section, will roll out over the next few months.
